Hot and Cold Therapy for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Hot and cold therapy, two of the oldest remedies for pain, can be used to ease discomforts associated with pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. A Maine Warmers Microwave Heating Pad (that doubles as an Ice Pack) is a “must-have” for all phases of motherhood.
During pregnancy, use a heat (or ice) pack to relieve hip and back pain, or on the face or head to relieve sinus headaches when pain medication is not recommended.
During breastfeeding, the moist heat from a heating pad will stimulate milk, promote let-down, and may relieve engorgement, plugged ducts and mastitis. Cold therapy will cool and soothe sore nipples and reduce inflammation.
We all agree that new moms need rest after giving birth. A heating pad promotes relaxation and sleep. Use it to warm mother and baby’s bed. The comforting companionship of a warmer is also useful for chilly nighttime feedings and during the weaning process.
