  • Why Whole-Corn Warmers Feel Different

    Aug 8, 2026

Different warmer fillings create different experiences. Maine Warmers use whole feed corn because it combines reliable warmth with satisfying, flexible weight.

Warm, moist heat from whole corn

Whole corn naturally retains a small amount of moisture and releases warm, moist heat when microwaved. The kernels settle naturally inside the cotton liner so the warmer can drape around shoulders, rest across a lap or tuck behind your back. Warming may also release a mild corn aroma; no fragrance is added.

    What moist-heat research can—and cannot—tell us

In a 2013 study of exercise-induced muscle soreness, researchers compared moist and dry heat in 100 young adults. Both were associated with lower pain ratings, and immediate moist heat produced the largest reduction in that study. The study did not test Maine Warmers, whole-corn products or every possible use of heat.

    Simple to use and maintain

Warm the product as assembled, following the supplied directions, or chill it in a clean, sealed bag. Every style has a Velcro closure and removable, refillable cotton liner. With larger openings the filled liner may come out intact; with smaller openings, empty the corn first so the liner can pass through.

    Made for repeated use

Unlike disposable warmers, the outer item can be washed and the corn can be replaced. That straightforward construction is part of what has kept Maine Warmers useful for so many years.
