  • Why Maine Warmers Are Filled with Whole Corn

    Jul 20, 2026

Rice, beans and synthetic gels can all hold temperature, but Maine Warmers have long been made with whole feed corn.

    A satisfying, flexible feel

The kernels have enough size and weight to settle comfortably without turning the warmer into a rigid pad. They move within the cotton liner so each shape can drape and conform naturally.

    Warm, moist heat

Whole corn naturally retains a small amount of moisture and releases warm, moist heat when microwaved. It may also give off a mild, familiar aroma when heated. We do not add fragrance.

Research on heat or moist heat can describe results from the specific people, devices and procedures that researchers studied. It does not prove that a whole-corn Maine Warmer will create those same outcomes. For a balanced overview, see Warmth, Cooling & Everyday Comfort.

    Refillable by design

Every Maine Warmer has a Velcro closure and removable, refillable cotton liner. Depending on the opening, the filled liner may come out intact or the corn may need to be emptied first.
